teen stress

Sometimes balancing academics, extracurriculars, work, and a social life is stressful. The worst part is, most of the time teens don’t even realize their too stressed because they’re too focused on everything that’s stressing them out. So, here are a few signs that you’re too stressed and what you can do to handle the stress!

  1. Chronic Fatigue

When you’re stressed, your body shuts down. In other words, your immune system isn’t 100%, so you’re more prone to feeling tired and sick. Most of the time this means you’ll also feel disconnected or unfocused.

Instead of consuming caffeine to boost your energy or taking medicine to quickly feel better, try taking a break and relaxing. You would be surprised what a little bit of yoga and meditation can do to your physical and emotional health.

  1. Difficulty Falling Asleep

Stress makes you overthink and feel restless. At the end of the day when it’s time to wind down, you end up laying in your bed stressing about all of your responsibilities instead of going to sleep. This enhances chronic fatigue and lowers your ability to concentrate throughout the day.

In order to lower stress and fall asleep, make sure you’re not over or under eating and are limiting the amount of caffeine you consume per day. If you find yourself still feeling restless, try meditating or breathing slowly right before falling asleep.

  1. Break Outs

Acne is the last thing you want to worry about when you’re stressed. Unfortunately, being a teenager automatically makes you more prone to break outs. So, that not only means it is easier for you to break out, but it also means it might be harder to tell you’re too stressed just from a break out.

If you find yourself dealing with acne when you’re extremely stressed, considering upping your skin care routine. An easy and relaxing way to control your acne is by doing a face mask a few times a week. Not only will the face mask help your acne, but it will be a great way for you to take a break from all your responsibilities to relax.

  1. Tense Body

Does your back ache for no reason? Do you catch yourself grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw? What about heavily hanging your shoulders? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this means too much stress is causing your body to tense up. A great way to lower stress and loosen up your body is yoga. Simply add a quick ten minute yoga routine to your morning to waken you up, or after school to give you enough energy to get through the rest of your day.
